Choose the Right Stretcher-Bar Depth

Depth Display style and purchase choice
3/4 inch (0.75 inch) Standard pine stretcher bars for a traditional, shallow canvas profile. Buy singles or 50-piece bundles.
1-1/2 inch (1.5 inch) Gallery-wrap pine stretcher bars, best suited to frameless display or a compatible floater frame. Buy singles or 50-piece bundles.
2-1/2 inch (2.5 inch) Extra-heavy-duty pine stretcher bars for an extra-deep gallery-wrap presentation. Select the quantity shown on the listing.

Gallery Wrap: Frameless or with a Floater Frame

Our 1-1/2-inch gallery-wrap stretcher bars create a deeper canvas edge for paintings and canvas prints. Gallery wrap means the canvas wraps neatly around the sides for display without an outer frame, or inside a compatible floater frame. A floater frame surrounds the stretched canvas with a visible gap; confirm the opening size, usable depth and mounting requirements for your finished canvas. Floater frames are sold separately.

Measure the Frame, Then Choose Your Lengths

One rectangular canvas frame uses four bars: two for the width and two for the height. Choose all four in the same profile. A 16 x 20-inch frame needs two 16-inch bars and two 20-inch bars. A square frame uses four equal-length bars. Allow extra canvas to wrap around the selected depth and fasten to the back.

What to Order

Pine Stretcher Bars

Select the depth, then choose the lengths and quantities needed to build your canvas frame.

Matching Cross Braces

We recommend cross braces for bar lengths over 30 inches. Select the brace series that matches your stretcher-bar depth.

Corner Braces for Larger Frames

Corner braces are recommended for 36 x 48-inch canvas frames and larger, regardless of depth: 3/4, 1-1/2 or 2-1/2 inch.

Canvas, Tools & Floater Frames

Stretcher bars are components, not completed canvases. Canvas, canvas pliers and outer floater frames are purchased separately.

Single Projects or Bulk Studio Orders

Buy Single Pieces

Order the individual lengths needed for one canvas or a small project. Check the listed quantity before adding to cart.

Compare Bundle Value

For studio and production orders, compare price per piece and the total bundle price. Pack quantities vary by profile; a bundle contains bars, not complete frames.

Canvas Stretcher Bar FAQs

What are canvas stretcher bars?

They are wood components used to assemble the support frame beneath a stretched canvas. Canvas wraps around the assembled frame and is secured at the back.

Do stretcher bars ship free?

Yes. All stretcher bars under 96 inches ship free, across all three depths. Bars measuring 96 inches or longer are excluded from free shipping. Check the selected product for applicable shipping charges.

Which depth should I choose?

Choose 3/4-inch bars for a traditional depth, 1-1/2-inch bars for gallery-wrap display, or 2-1/2-inch bars for an extra-deep canvas edge.

Can gallery wrap go in a floater frame?

Yes. Our 1-1/2-inch gallery bars suit frameless display or a compatible floater frame. Match the finished canvas dimensions, depth and mounting requirements.

When should I add corner braces?

We recommend corner braces for all 36 x 48-inch canvas frames and larger, regardless of stretcher-bar depth. Choose the suitable corner-brace option for your frame.

How many bars make one frame?

Four bars: two for the width and two for the height. Select bars in the same profile; braces are additional components.

How many pieces are in a bundle?

Standard and gallery bars offer 50-piece bundles. Extra-heavy-duty pack quantities are shown on their listings. Bundles contain individual bars, not assembled frames.

Can I order custom sizes or buy in bulk?

Contact us about custom lengths or deeper profiles; availability and extra charges depend on the specifications. Bulk discounts are available to the public.
